Jonathan Hodgetts
Jonathan started playing tuba at the age of 12 years old and apart from a
two-year gap after leaving school, has been playing ever since. Initially
playing in a local brass band, then after being inspired by going to a Proms
concert in the early 1990s, learnt to read bass clef and studied to grade 8
standard to be able to play in an orchestra. Jonathan today as well as being
the regular tuba player with Crowthorne Symphony Orchestra, also plays
with the Band of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary and
Beenham Wind Orchestra.
In 2011 Jonathan founded his own company, Wessex Tubas Limited which
manufactures and sells not only tubas, but the entire brass instrument range
all over the world, including particularly the USA and last year opened a new
showroom in Valencia, Spain for the EU market.
Jonathan’s other passion besides playing the tuba is wildlife photography
and he travels regularly all over the world including Africa, India, Brazil,
Alaska and China photographing, and for the last two years has been a
winner in the World Nature Photography Awards. When not travelling he also
takes images at his local nature reserve in Andover, Anton Lakes which
inspired the new tuba concerto having its orchestral premiered in this
concert.
