Elliot Gresty

Elliot Gresty began his musical studies at Chetham’s School of music in Manchester before being awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music in 2014 where he is a pupil of Richard Hosford, Timothy Lines and Barnaby Robson. At the RCM he has won both the clarinet and bass clarinet prizes and for his postgraduate studies he is a John Lewis Partnership Scholar. He has also received generous support from Help Musicians UK, The Musicians’ Company, and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust.   

From 2012–2014 Elliot was the principal clarinettist of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and has also taken part in the 2015 LSO Wind Academy, the 2016 London Sinfonietta Academy, and the 2017 Britten Pears Orchestra.  He was selected to perform John Adams Clarinet Concerto ‘Gnarly Buttons’ with the RCM New Perspectives Ensemble as part of the college’s spring 2017 season and took part in the 2017–2018 ‘BBC Symphony Orchestra Pathways’ sit in scheme.

 As a soloist he has given recitals at venues including, The Venue Leeds College of music, St James Piccadilly and as part of the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He has also performed the Mozart clarinet concerto with ensembles including: the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra, St Luke’s Festival Orchestra and the Cygnus Orchestra of London, and Weber’s Concertino with the Windsor and Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra. 

In 2018 Elliot won the Royal Overseas League Award for a Woodwind Player of Promise, participated in a masterclass with Michael Collins at the Wigmore Hall, and in 2019 won The Musicians’ Company ‘The Princes Prize,’ and performed live on Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ programme.   

He has played professionally with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and is currently on trial for the principal clarinet with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

 Elliot is passionate about contemporary music and plays regularly with the new music group ‘An Assembly’ whose concerts have featured on radio 3’s ‘Hear and Now’ and ‘Open Ear’ programmes.     Elliot also has an interest in historical clarinets and played with members of the Hannover band in a ‘Nurturing the NEXT Generation’ concert in the Arundel 2018 and 2019 festivals. He took part in the 2018/19 London Philharmonic Foyle Future Firsts Development Programme.
